"Bad Insurances" are those that wont even pay claims to and for their own policyholders (much less those that they "run into"). In California doctor's professional experience Mercury and GEICO are the worst. Even with their policyholders who pay extra for Med Pay on their policy they try their hardest not to pay claims. If you dont know what Med Pay is, you should know that everyone should have it. 

Medical Pay is an addition to most auto policies that provides for payment for you if you have an accident whether the fault is yours or not. This is important because many doctors will ask you to pay for your treatment on your own, until your case is settled or pending payment from your insurance (especially if they see you have an insurance on one of the lists above). Or they may require that you have a lawyer draft a lien on the settlement of your case and pay a deposit. If you have Medical Pay it does not matter who is at fault the insurance will pay your claim automatically and you will not have out of pocket expenses (in most cases). This type of coverage costs very little more than basic insurance.

Will my insurance rates go up if I am not at fault and I have Med Pay? Absolutely not, according to staute "S491. Rate Increases when insured not at fault" The rating of an insurance company cannot increase the rate of any insured if they are not at fault.
